 - The Non-Negotiables for 2025: Technology moves quickly, but for a laptop purchased today to last through four years of college, there are a few baseline specifications that should be considered non-negotiable.
 
- RAM: 8GB is the absolute floor. With modern operating systems and web browsers being notoriously memory-hungry, 8GB will get the job done for basic tasks. However, 16GB of RAM is the strong recommendation and the true “sweet spot” for most students. It provides comfortable headroom for multitasking and ensures the laptop will still feel responsive in three to four years as software becomes more demanding.2
